about

Dustin Coury is the owner, designer, and seamster behind Temporarily On Leave, a lifestyle brand that celebrates traveling in style and functionality. Dustin’s passion for sewing began with his grandmother, whose teachings planted the seeds for his creative pursuits. This love for craftsmanship deepened during his 20s when he rebuilt a sailboat, an experience that honed his appreciation for precision, durability, and design.
The inspiration for Temporarily On Leave emerged during a weekend backpacking expedition in the Lone Pine mountains. When Dustin and his friends were caught in an unexpected blizzard, the challenges of inadequate travel gear became glaringly apparent. Determined to address these gaps, Dustin began crafting products that combine practicality with timeless design, all stitched with an unwavering commitment to improving the traveling experience.

Today, Temporarily On Leave is more than a brand; it’s a reflection of Dustin’s journey—from his grandmother’s sewing lessons to navigating the elements in the wilderness—and a testament to his belief that great adventures deserve equally great gear.

Itinerary

We’ll cover the basics of bag and clothing construction, including demonstrations of essential sewing machines: overlock, walking foot, bar tack, single needle, binding machine, and presses. Additionally, we’ll dive into material selection and the manufacturing process to highlight what makes great gear both durable and sustainable.
To wrap up the day, we’ll host a backyard BBQ with live music. Beer will be provided by Rancho West, and mezcal by Madre. Whole Foods is conveniently located across the street, so feel free to bring your favorite veggie sausages or beef patties to grill and enjoy with the group.
