Hand-Building in the Garden
Join us for an introductory hand built ceramics workshop exploring the creation of small, ceramic altars. Using hand-building techniques such as coil building, pinching, carving and figure sculpting, participants will feel the relationship between form and function while shaping unique and meaningful clay pieces.
Everyone will leave with at least one finished form—possibly more if time allows. Open to all levels, this workshop is ideal for anyone interested in slow craft, elemental design, and creating meaningful objects for home and ritual use. No prior clay experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and a love of tactile making.

About
Natalie is a ceramic artist and multidisciplinary creative based in Oakland, CA. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, she began working with clay at a young age and continued her practice while studying at New York University. In 2020, she co-founded Campbell Street Studios, a shared art space for ceramicists and multimedia artists in Oakland. Her work explores texture, depth, and the natural beauty of clay through functional and sculptural forms. Beyond her own practice, Natalie is passionate about fostering community-centered creativity through her managing role with Elevate Oakland, a nonprofit bringing culturally-rooted, artist-led creative education to public school youth.
What's Included
3-hour guided workshop with all materials provided — including clay, tools, and a personal canvas workstation.
One (or more) hand-built clay forms to keep. At the end of the session, you’ll select your glaze color, and the facilitator will handle firing.
Finished pieces can be picked up in West Oakland or Inner Richmond (SF), or shipped to you for a small fee ($5–10).
