ABOUT
Compleat is a fly fishing school and creative studio founded by Sam Reese and Dorothy Dai. Developed through years of on-water practice, education, and creative production work connected to outdoor culture - Compleat leads Usal’s fly fishing offerings. This program is built to develop capable anglers through skill, judgment, and direct engagement with our local cold-water fisheries.
Compleat approaches fly fishing with a refined approach to skill, craft, and culture - grounded in technical instruction while also attentive to environment, history, and the visual and material language that surrounds fly fishing. In addition to education and trips, Compleat regularly contributes to outdoor creative and production projects, bringing design and cultural analysis into the documentation and presentation of fly fishing.
Sam Reese brings decades of dedicated fly fishing experience across tying, equipment, retail, and instruction. His background combines technical depth with a systems-level understanding of gear, fisheries, and method.
Classes and trips are designed to be rigorous but accessible, with emphasis on reading water, casting fundamentals, presentation, and decision-making — not just how to fish, but how to think while fishing.
