Hand-Stitched Deerskin Bag Workshop
Create with Locally Sourced Materials & Ancestral Skills
Led by artist and educator Marieclaire Wyntreaux of Wyntro, you'll craft a hand-stitched drawstring bag using deerskin leather sourced from the Hudson Valley. Just an hour up the river, Pergamena Tannery works with local hunters to create leather that is both sustainably sourced and naturally tanned—materials deeply connected to the landscapes that surround our city.
In this workshop, you’ll use the saddle stitch technique to craft your own, unique bag. Together we’ll reflect on ethical sourcing, ancestral craft traditions, and the ways handmade objects can connect us more closely to place.

About
Marieclaire Wyntreaux is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator specializing in ancestral crafts. Her work centers on natural materials sourced from the Northeast bioregion. Through her project Wyntro, she collaborates with farmers, tanners, and craftspeople to create garments and accessories from materials grown and harvested within 300 miles of New York City. Rooted in ancestral craft traditions and guided by the textures of wood, wool, and leather, Wyntro reimagines clothing as a reflection of land, culture, and community—part of a larger movement to revitalize local supply chains and reconnect people to the landscapes that sustain them.

What To Expect
This workshop includes all materials you need to handcraft a simple drawstring bag from local deerskin, naturally tanned. You’ll receive instruction and step by step guidance in the art of saddle stitching.
As we craft, we will explore the topics of our local bioregion, sustainable practices in action, and enjoy the shared rhythm of creating together.
You’ll leave with a finished piece that’s both functional and deeply rooted in place.
