Intro To Leather Bag Making
Create a Custom bag with locally sourced deerskin
You’ll craft a hand-stitched drawstring bag using deerskin leather sourced from the Hudson Valley. Just an hour up the river, Pergamena Tannery works with local hunters to produce leather that is sustainably sourced and naturally tanned—materials deeply connected to the landscapes surrounding our city.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the saddle stitch technique and leave with your own finished bag. Along the way, we’ll touch on ethical sourcing, ancestral craft traditions, and how working with your hands can deepen your connection to place.

About
Marieclaire Wyntreaux is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator specializing in ancestral crafts. Her work centers on natural materials sourced from the Northeast bioregion. Through her project Wyntro, she collaborates with farmers, tanners, and craftspeople to create garments and accessories from materials grown and harvested within 300 miles of New York City. Rooted in ancestral craft traditions and guided by the textures of wood, wool, and leather, Wyntro reimagines clothing as a reflection of land, culture, and community—part of a larger movement to revitalize local supply chains and reconnect people to the landscapes that sustain them.
