Gentle Artefacts
Gentle Artefacts is a Japanese tea brand cultivated in Kyoto and curated in Brooklyn, rooted in reconnecting people to ritual and the landscapes that sustain us. Shaped by years spent moving between Japan and New York in close relationship with tea farmers, Gentle Artefacts helps bring these producers to the U.S. to share their craft, perspective, and practice.
The Farmer
Yoshiharu Matsushita is a 7th-generation tea farmer and president of Matsushita Tea Garden, a family-run organic tea farm in Shizuoka, Japan, founded in 1915. His work bridges traditional cultivation with innovative tea-making, from classic matcha and sencha to contemporary sparkling and sake-based tea expressions. Grounded in a belief that great tea begins in healthy, living soil, Matsushita’s approach honors ecology, craft, and the ongoing evolution of Japanese tea.
