Kern River Camping Retreat

A Return to the River, A Weekend on Sacred Ground.

Join Usal, Dirtgirls, and Kinship for a two night, three day retreat into the wild foothills of the Sequoia National Forest — a place where the river still remembers, and the land speaks if you know how to listen.
For one weekend, 20 guests will step away from the digital hum of modern life and into something older — a way of being shaped by story, slowness, and the earth itself. This retreat will be held at Spirit Walk, a private and protected stretch of land tucked between oak and pine, where a seasonal creek runs like a quiet lifeline through the hills.

Spirit Walk Retreat Center

Spirit Walk is a completely private and secluded property nestled in the beautiful foothills of the Sequoia National Forest. This magical property is set among oaks and pines and feels like a million miles away, yet it is only a 3-hour drive North from Los Angeles. Spirit Walk is not just a place, it’s a presence — land that has been held sacred for generations. Beneath the surface of the soil is a freshwater well said to carry the sweetest water in the region. It’s a place that asks for stillness, invites reflection, and rewards those who approach with care.

Retreat Workshops

Wander slowly through the landscape and learn to see with new eyes. This workshop combines the practical skills of foraging with the subtle art of deep noticing. We’ll explore edible and medicinal plants native to the land, while also engaging the senses — touch, scent, sound — to tune into the natural world with curiosity and care. It’s part education, part meditation, and a full-bodied way to reconnect with place.

Itinerary

Guests arrive in the late afternoon to Spirit Walk, welcomed by the stillness of oak groves and the quiet hum of the land. After settling into camp, we’ll gather for an opening circle to ground, connect, and set intentions for the weekend ahead. A guided sensory walk will invite us to tune in to the subtleties of the land — the scent of sagebrush, the crunch of dry leaves, the sound of wind through pines. As the sun sets, we’ll share a nourishing, chef-prepared meal beneath the trees, followed by fireside storytelling and playful group games led by Kinship to spark laughter and kinship under the stars.
