The Great Sequoia Camp Trip
Spend your weekend exploring one of the most awe-inspiring corners of the western Sierra Nevada.
Join Usal and Forgotten Lands Project in the heart of Giant Sequoia Country for a weekend surrounded by towering trees and rushing creeks. Whether you're here to explore, swim, fish, or just soak up the high country air, this camping trip offers a rare chance to reconnect with wild California. Our days will be filled with scenic hikes, dips in hidden river swimming holes, and visits to important Indigenous landmarks along the way.
Across the weekend, we’ll follow forest trails to the massive Adam and Hercules trees, scramble along the North Fork of the Tule River to shaded plunge pools, and take in sweeping views on a sunset hike before gathering around the campfire.
REI will provide all primary camping gear—including shared tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and camp chairs—ensuring a comfortable stay as we immerse ourselves in this remarkable landscape. Participants are responsible for bringing their own food. The guide will email driving directions, a packing list, and other essential information ahead of time

Itinerary
Arrive at camp by 5 PM and take time to settle in. Choose your tent, unpack, and work together to get everything set up before the light fades. Once camp is in place, grab a light snack and lace up your boots for a short sunset hike that leads to naturally carved granite basins once used by Native communities, and to a nearby overlook where you can catch golden hour and watch the sun dip behind the horizon.
After the hike, return to camp and start preparing dinner together. As night falls, gather around the campfire for music, storytelling, and maybe a round of s’mores or a warm drink under the stars.
