Usal × Walmart – Park Watch: An Intro to Birding

Come Touch Grass With Us

Usal and Walmart are teaming up to bring more of what you love to city parks. We're tapping into Walmart Delivers, their newest campaign bringing a fleet of immersive delivery trucks across the country — each designed to help level up what you love.
And when Walmart Delivers pulls up with your nature break, Usal will be there too, hosting free community programming that gets you outside, connects you with others, and celebrates the parks that make our cities thrive.
As part of the activation, you’ll discover your park “persona” and get a kit of essentials that fits your style of park life—whether that’s stretching out in the sun, showing up fully stocked, or walking with friends. Your park day begins at the Walmart Delivers truck: the hub for everything you need to kick off time outside, stocked with gear, connection, and inspiration.

Event Description

Join us in Houston’s Hermann Park for a beginner-friendly birding walk led by Kelsey Low and Stanley “Skip” Almoney. Together, we’ll slow down and tune into the rhythms of the park—spotting feathered neighbors, learning birding basics, and noticing the interplay between people, wildlife, and the shared urban landscape. This isn’t just about identifying species; it’s about cultivating curiosity and presence. Whether you’re new to birding or simply looking for a mindful way to spend a morning, you’ll leave with fresh eyes for the world around you (and maybe a few new bird calls in your back pocket).

about

This workshop is led by Kelsey Low and Stanley “Skip” Almoney in collaboration with Houston Audubon Society. Between them, these guides have decades of experience in bird conservation and environmental education. The Houston Audubon, founded in 1969, is an independent, self-sustaining chapter of the National Audubon Society, working to protect birds and the habitats they rely on throughout the Greater Houston Gulf Coast region.
The organization conserves over 4,000 acres across 17 nature sanctuaries, offering vital stopover and nesting grounds for countless bird species.
