Catskills Camp Trip

West Catskills Spring Camp Trip

Join USAL for a weekend of camping in the western Catskills—a quieter, more remote stretch of the range defined by dense forest, rolling mountains, and freshwater ponds.
Set within Bear Spring Mountain, we’ll camp in a 7,000-acre landscape of hardwood forest, winding trails, and still water. This part of the Catskills feels removed—limited service, long stretches of uninterrupted nature, and a slower pace that invites you to unplug.
Our first USAL NYC spring camp of the year—a seasonal reset. A chance to step out of the city, reconnect with the outdoors, and ease back into time spent outside.
Days will be spent hiking forested trails, swimming in cold ponds and nearby rivers, and moving at an unhurried pace. Evenings bring us back to camp for shared meals, fireside conversations, and time spent getting to know one another.

Itinerary

We’ll meet at McCarren Park in Brooklyn at 1:30 PM, gathering as a group before loading into the van that will carry us out of the city and into the Western Catskills.
We’ll arrive at camp around dinner time. There will be time to settle into tents and ease into the rhythm of the weekend. Dinner will be prepared individually, with time to cook, eat, and land in the space together.
After dinner, we’ll gather around the fire for an evening of conversation, warmth, and time under an open sky.

What's Included

Van transport from McCarren Park to Bear Spring Mountain Campground and back. No planning, no driving—just show up and go. On the way up, we'll make one stop, 30 minutes from camp, for any final needs before heading deeper into the mountains - swapping cell service for fresh air.
